Spies, guns and sexy women: the makings of a good old fashioned fan service webcomic. And Spying With Lana does not disappoint in that regard.
Fourteen comics deep at the time of writing, Spying with Lana seems to be about a female spy (guess her name) and the crazy missions to which she is assigned. So far we’ve seen her on two of these missions. One, dressed in a small red bikini fighting none-too-bright arms dealers; the second has her undercover in a porn shoot. Of course, this means nudity covered by strategically placed hands, arms and guns. As already mentioned, fan service; keep it coming.
The story so far hasn’t gone too deep. And, judging by the tag line “The World’s Hottest Spy. The World’s Dumbest Missions,” you have to expect missions to be more tongue-in-cheek than serious.
From the looks of creator Sean Harrington’s other works, I’m not sure Spying with Lana is meant to last very long either. His other webcomics seem to primarily be short stories lasting no more than a dozen or so pages. I’m curious to see if he plans to continue that trend with this webcomic as well.
The art style is impressive and very well drawn. And while the splash of red in a purely black and white comic may be cliché these days, but honestly, if it works, it works, no matter how many other people are doing.
Spying With Lana may not be on my “check weekly” list, but I’ll be checking back every once in a while just to see how it develops.
