Ok, so it's quite obvious the site hasn't been updated to the aforementioned Version 3. Nor have any new articles been posted in, oh, 6 or 7 months. As tends to happen to MOST hobbies when one gets a real job, my attention is now diverted to real life matters. Sadly, that means that WebcomicZ and Webcomic Wallpapers (as well as a number of half-started projects) have kind of fallen into stagnation. I really wish I DID have the time to devote, but the fact of the matter is I don't.

OGLAF IS EXTREMELY NOT SAFE FOR WORK. There, now that's out of the way.

While I would say that there are plenty of cartoon porn sites on the web today, there are only a few that I would actually classify as adult webcomics. And by adult webcomics, I mean webcomics where there are mature, erotic and sexual elements, yet the purpose of the comic remains storytelling and/or humor. Creating a webcomic for the sole purpose of showing off T&A, in my opinion, makes you porn. If, however, the erotic elements are just one element of the equation, it becomes more than that. It becomes an adult webcomic.

longform plotlines but daily punchlines. This strip has popped up on

"Misfile" by Chris Hazleton was the webcomic that really inspired me to get WebcomicZ up and running. At the time when I first started reading it, I had no way of knowing if it was well known or not and wanted a way to share it with other people. In fact, one of my first posts when I created the forum was about "Misfile". It's taken a while for me to make an official review but I'll be honest, I haven't read it in a while. Buying the books and posting smaller, bite-sized reviews of them seemed like a good way to read through the series again.

I've been a fan on Phil Foglio's work since the old Phil and Dixie cartoons in Dragon Magazine.
This particular webcomic is a single panel humor webcomic bringing us the many ill-conceived ideas and misadventures of the title character, Biff. The cartoonish design of Biff helps alleviate any sense of sympathy you might have for the world's unluckiest man. In fact, you can't help but feel he brings much of his troubles on himself. Quite frankly, he's a walking Darwin award. Thank goodness for his apparent immortality, or this strip wouldn't have lasted one page.

Apparently this week's theme for WebcomicZ is Not Safe for Work week. First I review an adult webcomic, then an edgy religious parody, and now a webcomic known for its mature and dark humor. It just goes to show what we've all already known, comics aren't just for kids. "The Perry Bible Fellowship Almanack" is an excellent example of just how wonderful it is to have creators who realize this fact and create humor for adults to enjoy.

"Sister Claire" is the brainchild of Yamino, a freelance artist, art student, and self-admitted fan of PowerPuff Girls. This last bit may seem like an odd fact to state until you look at the art style for "Sister Claire"; the bubbly and colorful cartoon is an obvious (and admitted) influence for the creator's work. Also drawing from PPGs is the webcomic's extreme wackiness that says "we're not taking this too seriously." And that's always a good thing.

Chester 5000 XYV - Review

'Chester 5000 XYV', by Jessica Fink, is set in what appears to be a Victorian era with light steampunk elements. It is a love story between a young woman, Pricilla, and a robot, Chester 5000 XYV. One of the most distinct elements to this comic is not the presence of sex and nudity, but the fact that an entertaining and fairly solid story is told without any dialogue. The occasional symbol is used in speech bubbles to express emotion, but other than that, no one speaks through out the webcomic.

In any form of entertainment, trying something new is a huge gamble. Production costs, distribution costs, or simply the cost of spending time on the project; there are a number of factors that prevent many potentially excellent creative works from becoming public. Webcomics offer a way for some of these more experimental stories and ideas to be expressed by their creators. Without the power of independent publishing, I very likely would have never heard the name "Rice Boy".

I don't like giving spoilers away in my reviews, so writing about 'Strange Someone' is proving a little difficult. Much of the appeal of this webcomic is that it tells a not-so original story in a pretty original way. Taking story elements that are typically exclusive to one genre and fitting them into another. For example, taking superheros and putting them into a horror story. 'Strange Someone' attempts to mix two types of stories that are not generally mixed. And, thankfully, it does a decent job at it.

'Dawn of Time' by Michael Stearns is one of those webcomics out there that is obviously trying to be original and new. What's more important is that it is succeeding. This playful webcomic takes place in what could be described as the prehistoric era of an alternate reality. An era where dinosaurs and humans co-exist. In addition, it appears that much of humanity is relatively advanced having towns and trade centers.

WAGON Webcomic Battle CCG

'WAGON Webcomic Battle' is a Collectible Card Game created by Michael Dellheim. The concept is pretty sweet, and was something I myself have wanted to see for quite some time. Basically, webcomic creators contribute their characters and art to the game, allowing Michael to design cards with unique abilities based on those characters, items or events. Players are able to use these cards to build a deck from which they draw and play cards to defeat their opponent. The idea of beating your opponents with cards like Ardra and Jenny Everywhere is very appealing to me. And I'm sure I'm not alone in the excitement I felt when I first heard of the game.

Breathless is a (mostly) black and white fantasy adventure comic now in it's eighth chapter. Luckily, as the comic only updates once a week, you still have time to hop on board and get current before the serious action begins... but I'd hurry if I were you, it doesn't seem far off.

'Gypsy!' by John Peters is an example of something that I had to read twice. Not knowing what to expect the first time, I was thrown by its unforgivingly eccentric presentation. Once I was accustomed to the flow of the comic, I was able to re-read it and fully appreciate it for what it was.

Like so many others out there I have a strange fascination with the walking undead. So when I heard about 'Last Blood: Volume One' the book was on my doorstep within a few days. Created by Bobby Crosby and Chris Crosby, Written by Bobby Crosby and Illustrated by Owen Gieni; the credits are quite a mouthful for a webcomic. So, with three contributors responsible for one webcomic how does it hold up?

When I first placed Autumn Lake on the review list it's creator, Mark Savary, and I had only crossed paths on a couple of webcomic related forums. Since that time Mark has become a fellow co-host on The Webcomic Beacon and I count him among my virtual friends. Now, granted, I'm not much of a pissy reviewer to begin with and no one is going to be surprised to read yet another mostly positive review. Still, I didn't want to be charged with being biased without first coming forward and openly stating that I'm biased.

Created by Tom Dell'Aringa, our subject today is a Sci-fi humor and adventure webcomic by the name of 'Marooned'. John, an astronaut, and his sarcastic robot companion, Asimov, are introduced to us shortly after being stranded on Mars. Their rocket completely out of fuel, they're introduced to a number of alien life forms inhabiting the red planet.

'The Dreamland Chronicles: Book One' by Scott Christian Sava would normally start out of the gate with a few points against it. Typically, I'm biased against 3D comics for a number of reasons. Thankfully those reasons do not apply to 'The Dreamland Chronicles.' Instead, Scott treats us to some beautiful 3D artwork while telling the first chapter of a fun fantasy story.

Written and illustrated by Bradley Overall, 'Surfboards and Rayguns' has this great classic modern B-movie feel to it. Imagine someone from the 60s and 70s were to make an surfing/alien movie with modern special effects. Surfer-boy hero? Check! Space aliens that get hurt by Rock music? Yup! Super-hot alien bounty hunter chick? Of course! Everything about the comic is very tongue-in check, and doesn't take itself seriously. At least... I hope it doesn't.

Each time seemed to be a positive comment on the talent of creator and artist, Paul Taylor. As I read it, I was completely caught by surprise by one of my new favorite webcomics. 'Wapsi Square' is an excellent crafting of humor, drama and fantasy elements that tells a rich story built around Aztec mythology.

Crappy art, the storyline is impossible to follow and the characters are worthlessly under-developed. It's a real shame that creators Scott Brevan and Kent Earle don't seem to have a lick of talent for writing a coherent story for 'White Ninja', because I honestly saw some potential in this webcomic. A ninja! How much more awesome can you get than following the action/adventure life of a ninja? It had the makings of a great epic, but... I mean... come on! Where did they go wrong?

While it's not rare for a webcomic to have characters cute enough to be on buttons, shirts or made into plushies, it is pretty wierd when those characters are representations of bowel movements and flatulence. And, as odd as it may be to say, there-in lies the charm of 'Kawaii Not'. The short 4-panel lifespan of its characters gives us some slightly disturbing and occasionally touching insight into the thoughts and lives of everyday objects.

On top of that the creator, dedicated and talented Howard Taylor, recommends that new readers start with the "Under New Management" chapter. It seemed like the right way to go.

After reading it, however, I have to disagree.

Yes, we talk about movies a lot, but what better inspiration than Hollywood? … No? Well listen anyway! Also check out some of the Apocalypse and Disaster Webcomics we talk about.
